Doris Won Prizes
at Piadc
Dear sister Iblargaret.
How is everyone oijoying their pic­nic
this year? We had our picnic
yesterday. At first I thought it was
going to r a in but it didn't unta
got back. We had lunch and pop
there also. Thäre were many races.
I won two prizes, a big barrette for my
hair, a box of lovely writing paper and
«nvelopes. I went swimming also. Was
the water ever warm!
How is sist«r Margaret enjoying
herself? I think she really is having
a nice time.
Our garden is up aiready and the
potatoes are quite high also. There
is going to be a parade in town on
July Ist. I think y/e will ali be going.
There will also be a picnic and ali the
school children get a free ticket and
ice cream, pop and a choeolate box
too.
I haven't seen my pet ducks yet but
I sure hope they come home soon. Wc
have a small kiiten, It is yellovrtsh
brown with white spots on it.
It rained here nearly ali last week
but it is Tvarm now.

We are haying now and we sure
have good haying vveather here, too.
In a few more days our summer
holidays will be here.
We had a Sports Day at Sicamous
on June 18th and they opened the new
bridge. TTierc were cups in many
sports and I wcn a cup, it sure Is nice.

On June Hth, Shirley, Janet and
I went to White Lake hali as we had
to sing a Finnish song and I played
my mandolin. We had a very nice
trip.

Dear sister Margaret.
Wen, I guess it Is about time I göt
my pcncil and paper. I have been so
busy because we had our final exams.
I guess everylKxly knows you have to
study to get through school. That is
why I haven't written.
Weil, I don't have to study anymore
laecause we're through school. I pas­sed
Into grade 6. Boy, oh boy! Two
more years and I'm In hlgh
school. Am I ever glad the summer
holidays wlll be here soon. On the las^
day of school we will have a field daj;.
Mrs. Gemmell, our teacher asked Miss
the sun.
Weil. I got out of school aiready on
Friday. June 17th. 1 pasqed on my
_years marks so I dldn't have to write
like the only other pupil i n my class
had to do. Of course, it was a glrl.
Next year. of f to High School I must
march.
I made a scarecrow and put i t out
into our comficld to scarc away the
blrds that puli up the corn, Here"s
how I made it. F i r s t I got a falrly long
pole" and then I put a cms pjece on
it with spikes. They I got an old
coat and a palr of pants. secondly I
took the pole out Into the flcld wlth
ihc old clothes pounded the pole Into
the ground and put the coat and pants
on It. Thirdly 1 found out i t would
look better with a hcad on It so I
got a paper bag. fUled It w l th hay and
tied it on the neck. Then I found an
old derby and set It on the paper bag.
I though it wouId look' better wlth
something in itfi hand so I found an
old pall and stick and put them in
the hands of the scarecrow. Now
r very time I look out Into the comfield
for a sccond I think Its a real man.
Our dog Teddy is even scared ot It so
I think the birds should be too. I
hope so anyway.
There*s a chlcken hawk flying
around our place. I guess It might be
looklng for chickens. The answers to
' the problems I asked a few weeks back

Nyt on kesäloma pidetty ja on jäl­leen

päin. On myönnettävä, että kyllä se
Florida on kerrassaan kaunis valtio!
Olen kovin iloissani kun huomaan
kuinka ahkerasti te kirjoititte kirjei­tä
minun poissaollessani siltä huoli­matta
vaikka koulussakin oli varmasti
silloin kiirettä.

Tällä viikolla saapui kolme suomeksi
