meeting of November 13 discussed
many items of current interest. The

which on the hasis of the new 3—
2—1 point System gave Yritys a
narrow margin over Jehu. At the
time of the festival last summer
the 5 position system was used
and the points were in .Iehu's fa-vour
Yritys had decided at its
September meeting that Jehu
should be considered the Winner
ibut; in-the s p i r i t o f true sportsman-ship,
Jehu sent the Trophy to To­ronto.

are pleased that- Kennedy wo^n. Its not Ihat^ we have ali of a sudden
found a soft spot i n ^ r hearts for millionaires,, but rather that we
see Nixon's defeat as a blow against the worst cold warriors. a l -
though both candidates beat the cold war drum. We liked the short
two paragraph editorial in The Globe and Mail on Wednesday Nov.
9, which asked the poinled question "If Kennedy and Nixon had
'removed from their speaches the parts wherejhey tried to out-do
each other on how they would meet the communist challenge, stand
up to Krushchov etc. e t c , — what would be left?"
' U.S. elections are very interesting and they do reflect in varying
^ degrees, the democratic traditions of the-:people. .Unfortunately/
the vote turn put is poor — 60—70 % qf voters. It is interesting
to note that the number pf non-voters is roughly the same as total
votes for Kennedy. We think that perhaps neithor party in the TJ.S.
is too anxions to arouse this large Section of the electorate. Who
:knowSi maybe ithese people:wou!d not like either choice of: the. big .
money parties.
AU Canadians should pay attention to U.S political affairs. As
ajnatter of fact, becaiise of the U.S. domination of our economy
and, because of seriousness of the struggle for peace, we must be
concerned with political life of a l l parts of the world, and parti-
. ciilarly our. big soulhern neighbour; But doremember not to be fooled
by the bally-hoo and side show effects that have beeome a part of
U.S.^ politics. Look underneath this, and you will recognize the real
issues that are being fought.
