(Young Communist League

Bolshoi Theatre i n Moscow, on the
5th of May. The last two years
have shown still more clearly than
ever before, the g r e a t significance
of the Komsomol i n the system of
proletarian organization. The L e n i n -
ist Young Communist League in the
Soviet Union häs proven itself
worthy of its o l d e r . bröther, t he
Bo]shev1k., Communist Party. It has
given fo'the Bolshevik Party 300,-
000 members, and thirty-sevcn p e r
cent of the aeeeptances into t he
p a r t y have been from the Komso­mol.
The Komsomol has i n its ranks
the most energetic and active ele-ments
of the y o u t h — i n the f a c t o -
rics, i n the villages and village s o -
viets, i n t h e comnranal farms. I t
has 49,000 rural nuclei. In the
Friends of the Airfleet, and Navy,
in the universities, in the Red A r my
and Red Fleet, i n the economic i n -
situtions, at important posts in
Soviet Socialist Industry, the mem­bers
of t h e Komsomol energetically
play their role in the construction
of socialism i n the Soviet Union.
Great problems have faced a nd
still face the p r o l e t a r i an dictator­ship.
How has the Komsomol react-ed
to these problems? When the
Communist Party -was faced with
the anti-soviet, anti-party Trotskyist
opposition, the millions of youth i n
the Komsomol supported as a unit
the Leninist policy of the Bolshevik
Party. In the struggle against
bureaucracy, in the struggle on the
cultural front against alcoholism
against hooliganism, i n t h e m i l i t a -
r i z a t i on i n r e p l y to the attck pf
World imperialism against the So­viet

Party. The advance of socialist
construction raises ever new prob­lems
before the proletarian dictator­ship,
and dejnands ever greater and
greater work f r om the Young Com­munist
League. The Whit€ Guards
and Mensheviks hope that the new
generation in the Soviet Union wfll
degenerate, will weaken. The r e l i -
gious sects i n the Soviet Union are
struggling to reach the youth. The
class enemy persists i n r a i s i n g i t s
head.

Comrade Jääskeläinen, Secretary

situated i n Sudbury, gave a report
on the work and progress achieved.
Some discussion arose over the ques-tion
of the most appropriate and
suitable time for the school. The
original proposai of f our weeks,
f r om J u l y 9 t o August 4, was con-curred
with, as the best arrange-ment
under the circumstances.
The Committee had niäde arrange-ments
for the purchase o f tents, i n
which the students would be accom-modated
during the 'courses. XJnsf
nimously the meeting recognized the
advantages of the new camping ar-rangements
over the system p r e -
viously employed. Under the new
arrangements a l i students are re-quired
to procure their own blankets,
and other bcdding necessary, also
plates, knives and forks, while only
the shelter is provided for. The
Beaver Lake H a l l may be again used
for the entertainments, meetings,
e t c , that the students may set up.
A l s o the hali may be used as " d i n i ng
roora". where meals are served.
These facilities having being pro­vided
f o r w e may be certain that
we have as i d e a l a location for our
summer school as can he hoped for.
The provisions made by the Com­mittee
as to age o f the students was
also accepted. The lowest agei limit
is 12 years and the highest 23. This
l a t t e r restriction does not apply to
those that desire to attend the school
on their own expenses, but only to
those who attend on scholarships.
The_ students shall be divided into
two ciasses, thus f a c i l i t a t i n g a. more
thorough instruction vvork than
wouId be possible i n one class under
one teacher- There is no exact age

A t no time before did the future
o f the workera* sports movement in
Canada look so bright as to-day.
Likewise at no time was interest i n
a c t i v i t i e s at such a high mark. New
units have been formed, or are in
the process of formation i n a num-ber
of cities, mining camps and
f a r m i n g localities throughout Can­ada.
In the big cities i t has taken
on more of mass character. It is no
accident that the Toronto Workers'
Sports were able to attract a crowd
of 1,500 to one o f their affairs.
The demonstration of the Toronto
Workers' Sports ori May Day made
an excellent impression. Very im­portant
also is the setting up of tho
•Workers' Sports Association of C a n ­ada,
and the l i n k i n g tpgether of ^laU
the units throughout Canada.
To the development of the Work-ers'
Sports i n Canada, the most i m ­portant
factors have been the a u x i -
l i a r y youth prganizations of the
Y o u n g Communist League. In the
near future the youth organization
of the U k r a i n i a n Labour Farmer
Temple Association may also 'play
an important part. On the other
hand, amongst the Finnish workcrs'
sports organizations the important
f a c t o r has been the adnlt workers.
To those organizations thät have
w r i t t e n us f o r advice on the organi­zation
of workers sports, we have
u n t i l now recommended the follow-i
n g : The elcction of a committee to
consider ways and means of organiz-ing
.workers' sports, and the possibi-lities
of c a l l i n g g a conferenca of
sympathetic labour organizations
w i t h this end i n view. ; I n the event
of such conferences proving failures
the committee should not regard this
as a sign of defeat, but continue to
work w i t h whatever forces i t is able
to muster. It n i a y later be possible
to call a conference that will be
more successful. 'Where the work-ers'
sports is f u r t h e r advanced the
labour movement w i l l have a strong
a l l y i n ali their struggles. Workers'
sports must be developed into a
great reservoir of strength f o r the
militant labour movement. The task
of ali organizations of class-con-scious
working youth must *be to
b u i l d workers' sports organizations
in every locality that can be reached.
No working class organization c an

task.
