idealistic Platonism succeeded in hindering man's de-velopment
along more logical materialistic Iines.
It is odd that science hasproved the Ancients wrong in
SO many, many ways, and yet.we cling to an outworn re-|

cases it is done haphazardly, with

the, reason for living, the air you

and to be possessed by him". If
any thoughts of continuing educa­tion,
career, or some personal am­bition
in life are harboured, the
woman is the one who is only too
eager to set ali this aside if "he"
should ask it. She is willing to
become a piece of furniture,,
thereby setting herself beneath
"him". She is virtually asking not
to be considered as "a person" but
rather as "his".
There are exceptions, of course,
and i n the main these are the wo-men
who have the happiest mar-riages
because "he" has not taken
her as a cäattel. but rather as a
person on an equal with himself
with eqUal rights; to everything
life has to offer. If women wouId
put more emphasis on their rights
before the trap has been sprung,
we would hear less wailing after-wards
about not being "people".

Toronto. — In a message - from
Stratford. Ont.i Ann Casson has
said that the eigth World Festival
in Helsinki, Finland, this summer
will show that " the youth of'the
World share a common expe­rience".
The well-known theatrical per-sonality,
wife of Douglas Campbell
who is currently appearing on
Broadway, Added:
"The thing that binds us to
other, people of the same interest
• whether in sport, or the arts
or whatever it is — these are*far
stronger and more natural than
the artificial barriers that separate
us."
The Helsinki Festival will be
held from July 28 to August 6 in
the Nordic capital and will bring
together some 15.000 young people
from over 100 countries — both
east and west, Aim of the World­wide
gathering organized by an in­ternational
committee with repre-sentatives
from many countries, is
to promote peace through fostering
internationar youth frienship and
understanding.
A Canadian World Youth Festi­val
Committee was established in
Toronto last December to organize
a delegation from Canada to the
festival. Since then a number of
local committees have been set up
and over 50 young canadians have
indicated their intentions of atten-ding
the youth get-together.
In her meäsage. Miss 'Casson
said that "time an time again we
are being shown that coexistence
is possible among people of diff»
rent nationalities working on a
common project."
She assert^d: ''Surely ali people
of common sense everywhere. must
welcome any action which will
throw people of different nationali­ties
togetherv working and x:reating
as many levels as possible."..
A message of support has also
been received from Miss Suzanne
Rivest of Montreal well-known in
Canadian dance circles. Miss Rivest
was a judge of the modern dance
competitions. at the seventh World
Youth Festival in Vienna in the
summer of 1959 and also attended
the sixth festival held iri Moscow
in 1957.
Expressing the hope that a large.
gröup of young Canadians will take
part in the Helsinki Festival. Miss
Rivest wrote that the occasion will
enable the young participants to
work ' for an aim dear to ali: peace
on earth. peace with the youth of
the World."
Similar messages of enccurage-ment
have come to the internatio­nal
committee from well-known per-sons
in many countries, including
one from Dr. Linus Pauling, nuc-lear
physicist and Nobel Prize Win­ner
in the United States.
The Canadian feslival committee
has arranged travel by plane and
boat to the festival as well as a five-country
post-festival tour to the
Soviet Union, Hungary, Austria,
France and Britain or Holland.
The trip by plane will take six
weeks during July and August and
cost a total of $780. whi le the boat
trip will take a little over two
months at a total cost of $785.
