celebrating the : final payment of
:Finland's war reparations :to the
Soviet Union. Slnce this ouUet for
Finnish goods was fulfiUed and would
be discontlnued, Finland faced . the
problem of either finding markets
fpr the goods produced by the war
reparatlons Industries or - closing
down themlUs and faqtiories which
would leave thousands of people Job-less.
Foreseeing this, the Soviet
Union made a irade agreement with
Finland covering ali the exoess goods
these Industries would produce, wlth
the understanding that In no way
does this agreement affect FInland's
status as an Independent country.

iLast week end an anonymous
Yritys member dropped Into the
Nickel City and broke the long
silence on what the clubs are doing
this season.
He had a particular glint in his
eye when he spoke of the hockey
team and craf tlly enquircd whether
the Alerts team had begun practislng.
What he was driving at became quite
evident when we, craftily too, urged
hlm to confide in us what the Yritys
teain looks like this year. We had
expected him to eome out with a
sad Story saddled wlth extfuses over
the loss of a number of good players.
But no, he iounediately reminded us
of the fact that last year Yritys
wound up in a very enviable place
in the play-offs, although they had
been badly äef eated in some of thelr
earlier games. This season offers an
entirely dlfferent Story. The team
häa done quite well in the pre-season
games and eveh won the first game
(it was a llttle difflcult to get him
to admit that i t wa8 won throiigh
-default when the other team failed
to show up). When he regained his
0ompo8ure after above admisslon he
got the same twinkle back in his
eyes and. assured ttiat the team
looked good in action and seemed
more balanced than last year.
; ^ They have the same practice hours
.as last year. For « 5 / » they prac­tice
for one hour from 6 to 7 Satur-day
momings. This means that
niany- have to leave their homes by

And as far as dropping out because
of marriage, a sound excuse has yet
to be offered.
The older boys are also expresslng
more interest In gym this year and
there is no doubt that If a competent
histructor could be secured the major
problems would dlsappear.
