Other Demonstrations-Fancy Cake Decorations; Folk Dances and Songs; Gift Wrapping; Smocking Cushion Tops; Altering Patterns; FishCooking School; Electrical Safety by Canadian Utilities; Wild Life Conservation; Hooked Rugs; Design Judging; Things Made from Plastic Bottles; Mouth to Mouth Resuscitation. Make a Study of the Local District to find out what would be most useful piece of work to do for the Community. Here are suggestions: Cash Donations to Rest Rooms; Dishes, towels, curtains, cutlery, etc., for Hall; Treats for children at Christmas; Sign for Local Cemetery; Sewing for Local Hospital; Showers for Brides; Supplies for Fire Victims; Gifts for Senior Citizens; Sewing Course utlder Home Economist; Trophies for 4-H Curling; Supplies for Curling Rink; Skating Rink Fence; Fruit Juice for Shut-ins; Conduct Welfare Centre and Library; Care for Cemetery; Encourage Road Signs; Loan Wheel Chairs, crutches or vaporizers; Gifts for Local Hospital and Playground Equipment. CHAPTER FOURTEEN PUTTING SPICE INTO RAISING FUNDS We often want to lend a hand where we cannot be present personally. Our alternative is to send a contribution to represent us. A levy on each Member should never be for a specified amount. Instead, decide together on your fund-raising projects, earn the money together giving all the Members a chance to do what they can and then contribute to any cause from the Branch Treasury. Tea and Bake Sales-These are enjoyed and well patronized. There are many varieties. You may have your Bake Sale within a local store, courtesy of the friendly Manager. You might have it in connection with a Tea put on for a specific community project. If so, publicize it well. Also you could take orders ahead for sp~cific kinds of cakes to be baked by a certain person, or to be delivered at some special time for some extra occasion. This could take the form of a Mail Order Cake Week-Distribute to friends and others, cards something like this-Would you like to order a cake? Price $1.00 (or. . .) Chocolate? Ginger? Spice? . . . What day next week for delivery. . . ? or When. . . ? Sign name and address here. . . . . Return this card to . . . . . Member. of . . . . . A tea-cup reader is fun at a Tea or Bake Sale and a good drawing card. Also grab bags, fish pond for children and some bazaar articles. A draw for a well-displayed and advertised Door Prize at the close keeps th~ crowd lingering and buying.
