Alberta Women's Institutes Grimshaw W.I. News Diane Smith Grimshaw 70th Anniversary Celebration Diane Smith Anne Palmer being presented with her 65 year pin and Certificate of Women's Institute Membership by Zella Pimm, Director. Anne is a delightful member who at 93 continues to sew, paint, knit, write poetry and participate in Branch activities. I wash up and dress and prepare breakfast so slow For today we've got a meeting and later a show I do my chores not always the best Then I stretch out, and take a noonday rest. My friends they call me to see if I'm fine I'm truly busy on the line They remind me of events that are coming up I sip my coffee and put down my cup. Some days are hectic with too much drive All I can say is, "Thank God I'm still alive". M I any members and guests attended our celebration in November 2004. The cake was made by Mona Fleck and iced by Margaret Paulaitch both friends of the W.I. The Mayor of Grimshaw Brian Allen gave greetings. We remain a vibrant senior group but give and gain great pleasure from our participation in community events.wi F i v e Point W.I. Celebrates 65 Years L. Koniegny n the summer of 1940, Five Point W.I. Branch was organized and named for the 5 School Districts: Pathfinder, Fidelity, Lake Geneva, Bloomington and Hamilton. There were 14 charted members. One Alice Modin remains a member of 65 years! The initiation fee was 25 cents. Members knitted socks, made jackets, made quilts, filled ditty bags and sent razor blades and cigarettes for the boys overseas throughout the war years. The branch has had many fund raising projects to support scholarships, supplies for foreign countries, and local charities. This group was instrumental in erecting a Hospital Cairn in 1969 with donations from many groups. This commemorates the establishment of the first Municipal Hospital in the British Commonwealth 50 years earlier. As in the past this branch is active in supporting the library, Historical Society, Scholarship in Grade 12, Most Improved Student Award in Grade 6 supplying lunch at Bingo for a month and serving pie and coffee for the Community Wide Garage Sale. Congratulations Five Point!wi Glendale Cancer Fundraiser Successful T he Glendale Women's Institute marked its 55th year of support for the Canadian Cancer Society with its annual donation drop-off and raffle fundraiser at the Bearspaw Lion's Hall. From left to right are fundraising organizer Janet Kelly, president Frances Bancroft, fundraising organizer Florence Oberhofer and Darlene Wicks, District 4 director now President Elect.
