Home and Country Spring 2005 President's Address Continued This Year's Project Phyllis Kosik, President Elect Ladies are you interested in becoming the `Resolution Chairperson' or the `Classroom Agriculture Program' representative? Both of these positions need to be filled. If you are interested please call the office at 780-312-2440. Two items will come up at the Provincial Convention: 1 Associate Members: changes will be made to the Policy Book so that Associate Members can vote. 2 Provincial Convention 2006: should we have a Provincial Convention in 2006 when we are hosting the F e d e r a t e d Women's Institutes of Canada in June 2006? We need to think about this. Enjoy the coming convention, renew friendships and return home all enthused about our organization. My term as President ends in June, so this is my last report for the Home and Country. Thank you for all the wonderful friendships I have made through all my travels from the West to the East and across the waters to Tasmania, Australia. To my Council, thank you for the leadership, understanding and support that you have given me. I wish each of you the very best in whatever you do. So long, It's been good to know you!.wi A .W.I. Council has decided to follow the lead of FWIC, who are adopting a town in the north. I am writing letters to several communities in the north to see what is needed. When I have responses, we will decide which community we will help and in what way. So... Keep your eyes peeled for updates on this project. I want to thank all of you for your hard work in the past two years with our projects. First there was "Helping Hands", then "Reaching Out to Others". I have been noting a lot more concern for the less fortunate in your communities and I commend you for it. I'm sure you will put your shoulders to the wheel on this new project. Thanks again. Founder 's Day is February 19th. Are any of you planning something special on or near that date? I hope you at least remember to have a few words about our founder in this month's meeting. Congratulations to Pat Neilson, of Innisfail, Cottonwood Branch who was drawn for the New Member Award at our January Council meeting. She will be our guest at the June Convention. If she cannot attend the runner-up will take her place. The runner-up who was drawn this year is Diana Gullacher of Darwell, Darwell Branch. Congratulations to both ladies.wi Letter from A.C.W.W. President Ursula Goh 18th January 2005 Dear Members, Re: ACWW Tsunami Relieve Fund. I am aware the General Secretary has already informed you all that ACWW have established this special fund. This was done in view of the encouraging request from many Societies to donate. As you know, ACWW is not a disaster relieve aid agency and so cannot use ACWW funds for the purpose of offering immediate aid in situations such as hurricanes, earthquakes etc. That is the role of other big international emergency aid organizations such as UNICEF, Save the Children, Red Cross, Medicines Sans Fronterie etc.. However, ACWW can, if member societies specifically request to do so, receive and channel donations to specific areas of need of societies or projects through the ACWW Earmarked fund which exists for this purpose. Member societies contacted Central Office after the Indian Ocean Earthquake to ask ACWW to accept donations for the affected countries. ACWW has agreed to do so and all funds received for this purpose will be forwarded in due course. Details to meet the criteria of how to channel these special funds will be discussed at the coming Executive meeting in March 2005. Thank you for your co operation and generosity.
