Home & Country Alberta Women's Institutes Fall 2005 Mission Statement Women of all ages who achieve change through personal growth, communication and education. In this issue: Dates and Deadlines..............2 President Elect.......................3 District Reports ............. 4 & 5 Convener Reports ........ 6 & 7 Write On ..............................8 FWIC Fundraising ................8 Handicraft Report .................9 FWIC Competition ..............9 Branch News ................ 10, 12 In Memoriam, Memorials ...11 Book of Remembrance ........11 Quilt Raffle .........................12 FWIC Convention ..............12 From Phyllis' Desk Phyllis Kosik, President I hope that you all had a wonderful summer. Farmers here are having trouble getting enough dry weather to take off their crops. Further north I hear that they have had snow. Also that Innisfail area received snow as well. We all have hopes that crops will eventually get off, the BSE scare and ban of cattle to the U.S. will be lifted as well as our softwood lumber industry getting relief from those exorbitant fees at the border. Let's all pray for the best all round! The Canadian Agriculture Safety Association has contacted me regarding safety camp grants that are available. Our funds are almost depleted that were designated for this purpose, so we will be applying for more funds. Please let me know if any branches are willing to have a safety camp this coming spring or summer. I would like to know how many and an idea as to the costs (hall rent or parking lot etc). Let me know as soon as possible as I would like to get this done by the first of the year. Our "Adopt A Village" project is being well received. We have one trucker, so far, who is will to take a couple of boxes a trip to Wabasca. If you know of a trucker willing to do the same to either Wabasca or Fort McMurray, please contact me and I will give you the contact persons names and phone numbers. The FWIC Committee is hard at work. We have the registration form draft sent off to the FWIC Executive Officers for approval. Hopefully we will have that approval for it to be mailed out with this magazine. The War Stories and Children's Stories as well as the new Write On books should be ready within a month. I hope we will have the prices by the time this is mailed out. Watch for more news in my President's Letter.wi
