MRS. HUDSON GRANT
Mrs. Hudson Grant, nee Sarah Jane Lewis, was born
i n Ontario but soon a f t e r the family moved to Detroit, Michigan.
Here she attended school and at the early age of
seventeen married Hudson Grant. Three children were born to
this union.
In 1 9 0 2 they moved as one of the pioneer families to
the Angus Ridge d i s t r i c t . Mrs. Grant joined the Women's Ins
t i t u t e when i t was f i r s t organized and has always been a
f a i t h f u l member. During the busy years when the children
were small and roads very bad at times, she very seldom missed
a meeting and has always been a member to be depended upon.
She has served as President for two terms and as Secretary f or
one year.
Her fine handwork has done much to bring honor to her
branch with exhibits of her work at the handicraft exhibits i n
Calgary, Edmonton and D i s t r i c t Conferences. Her work has i n cluded
rug making, crochet, k n i t t i n g and outstanding q u i l t i n g.
One of her most beautiful entries was a Wedding Ring patchwork
q u i l t , made after she was seventy- five years old. At the age
of eight- five she made fourteen pairs of men's pyjamas f o r the
Red Cross.
At the November meeting i n 1954, Mrs. Hudson Grant received
her i'in and C e r t i f i c a t e of L i f e Membership i n the Alberta
Women's Institutes from Angus Ridge W. I. with her daughter- in-law,
Martha Grant, performing the ceremony.
