Christmas,. with a s i x months old baby; staying alone on
that homestead i n the summer w i t h the baby while my husband
worked i n Alsask, t h i r t y - s i x miles away; learning to milk
a cow so the baby could have milk - I always f e l t sorry f or
that cow as i t took me so long to milk; bearing f i v e c h i l d ren
with a doctor only f o r the f i r s t and l a s t 1 .
That f i r s t summer at Cereal she joined the P r a i r ie
C i r c l e , the forerunner of the P r a i r i e C i r c l e V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e.
There were more years of drought and grasshoppers than wet
years and the Dibbles moved to a d i s t r i c t west of Olds i n 1933.
F i n d i n g no women's o r g a n i z a t i o n i n t h i s d i s t r i c t , she
was instrumental i n s t a r t i n g the l o c a l F. V. U. A. which i n turn
became the Eagle V a l l e y V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e . She was the f i r st
s e c r e t a r y , h o l d i n g that o f f i c e u n t i l 1947 when she gave i t up
a f t e r the death of her husband. She served as Convener of Olds
Constituency and of Olds West a f t e r the d i v i s i o n of the former
i n t o two groups.
Eow at 78 she l i v e s alone on the farm i n the summer where
she cares f o r her large lawn, l o v e l y flowers and f r u i t . She
loves having people come to see her garden and yard. Her own
W. I. branch have held an annual garden party there i n J u l y f or
over twenty- one years. In winter she l i v e s i n Olds where she
enjoys being able to attend the United Church of which she i s a
member. She i s a c t i v e i n both the Women's A u x i l i a r y and the
Missionary Society. Eagle V a l l e y presented her w i t h a L i fe
Membership i n May 1959-
