Mrs. Lyon joined the Barons Women's I n s t i t u t e i n 1923,
served as s e c r e t a r y i n 1924; as president i n 1941, 1948, 1950,
1955 and 1956. She has served f a i t h f u l l y as Convener o f Handi
c r a f t i n her. branch and i n L i t t l e Bow Constituency. At the
time she r e c e i v e d h e r L i f e Membership she was s e r v i n g as v i c e -
president of her branch and was a l s o on the Board o f the A u x i l i
a r y o f the S e n i o r C i t i z e n s Home i n Lethbridge.
Mrs. Lyon has been an a c t i v e and p u b l i c - s p i r i t e d c i t i z en
i n the community and has a s s i s t e d i n promoting many o f the proj
e c t s of the Barons W. I. through the years, one being the f i n a n c
i a l aid given t o the b u i l d i n g of the community h a l l w i t h Barons
W.- I. being the f i r s t l o c a l o r g a n i z a t i o n t o c o n t r i b u t e to t h is
e f f o r t . She took an a c t i v e part i n the many c l i n i c s held i n her
home town, such as the T. B.; the Chest X- Ray; Baby C l i n i c s ; and
Dental C l i n i c s as w e l l as r a i s i n g funds t o send a l o c a l boy East
f o r an operation. During the Second World War she was a c t i v e i n
P a t r i o t i c League, organizing c l o t h i n g drives and food parcels and
was i n charge o f the l o c a l tobacco fund f o r the boys overseas.
Her s p e c i a l hobbies are fancy work and growing flowers.
She has a warm smile and a f r i e n d l y g r e e t i n g f o r a l l f r i e n d s both
o l d and new.
Anna Cowell Lyon was given her L i f e Membership i n October
1957 at the r e g u l a r meeting of her branch. Special guests were
present f o r the occasion.
