r i c t . They have made t h e i r home on the 8. P. Ranch since
that time. One son, Robert H., resides on, and manages,
the ranch o r i g i n a t e d by h i s grandfather i n 1833. There
are two grandsons, Robert Lee and Richard William.
Mrs. Porter has belonged to the I r v i n e V/ omen's I n s t i
t u t e f o r twenty years and was president of the branch f or
twelve years of that time. She was elected Convener of
Medicine Hat Constituency i n June I960 at the annual Conference.
I r v i n e V/ omen's I n s t i t u t e members were anxious to show
t h e i r a p p r e c i a t i o n to Mrs. Porter f o r her outstanding leaders
h i p during the time she was president and so a L i f e Membership
was given to her, with the presentation being made by
Mrs. David Bonnet i n May 1959. The presentation took place
at a r e g u l a r meeting to which members' mothers and guests had
been i n v i t e d i n honor of Mother's Day.
' Mrs. Porter has a number of i n t e r e s t s i n c l u d i n g membership
i n the Registered Nurses' A s s o c i a t i o n , the Medicine Hat
General H o s p i t a l Alumnae A s s o c i a t i o n and the Community Art
Club. She has many p a i n t i n g s to her c r e d i t , with one on the
P r o v i n c i a l Art Tour i n 1961. She i s a member of St. John's
P r e s b y t e r i a n Church, Medicine Hat.
