of the f i v e delegates from A l b e r t a t o the T r i e n n i a l o f the
Associated Country Women o f the World held i n Toronto i n
1953. In 1954. she hecame the f i r s t Chairman of the new con-venership
o f U n i t e d Nations and Exchange Programs with
L e t t e r Eriends, being added t o the Committee i n 1 9 5 5 . I n
1956 she brought A l b e r t a the d i s t i n c t i o n of having won second
place i n the essay contest sponsored by the A. C. V. W. Pres
e n t l y we can h e r Mrs. Patterson's v o i c e over CEGP b r i n g i ng
us the ' NEWS and VIEWS o f the WOMEN'S INSTITUTES' each Saturday
morning.
Rose D e v l i n was born o f E n g l i s h - I r i s h stock at Nanaimo,
B r i t i s h Columbia, October 11, 1893* Her maternal grandparents
came to Nanaimo around Cape Horn from England. She graduated
from Normal School i n Vancouver, and i n the course o f time
came to the Peace River Country t o teach. Here she met and
married D. W. Patterson, a lawyer at Grande P r a i r i e . She i s the
mother o f two daughters and one son who i s f o l l o w i n g i n the
p r o f e s s i o n o f h i s f a t h e r . There are f o u r grandchildren.
As w e l l as her I n s t i t u t e work, Mrs. P a t t e r s o n has taken
an a c t i v e part i n the Women's A s s o c i a t i o n o f the U n i t e d Church
and i n the M i s s i o n a r y Society.
Grande P r a i r i e W. I. presented Mrs. P a t t e r s o n w i t h h er
