Help to Build Yugoslav "Youth Railway"!
The clanking of picks and sho-vels,
the clear rhythmic ring; of
sledges, the steady hum of pen-cils
on a drawing board, the
sweat of thousands of youth from
many countries toiling side by
side — a railway is being built I
But there is something different
about this railway — the way
these young people work, tho
looks of determination on their
faces, the speed at which con-struction
proceeds. It seems as
if they are building this railway

"These other youth you see
around here — French, English,
American, Czechoslovak, Greek,
Albanian, Rumanian, Bulgarian,
Soviet, Polish, Hungarian — have
all come from their own
specially help us. The new,
powerful world youth organiza-tion,
the World Federation of
Youth, sent out call
asking that brigades of youth
from all over the world be formed
to come and assist in the con-struction
of our Youth Railway.
The youth of the world has res-ponded
with such vigour and en
thusiasm that it is possible that
may finish construction ahead
of time.
"It's really funny, yet at the
same time inspiring sit din-ner,
or after dinner enter-tainment
and see the youth of
a dozen different nations laborio-usly
trying converse with each
other. Everyone seems to be
happy here. They feel that they
are helping build that new
world that they heard so much
during the war. We shall all be

open admiration on his face. He
accepted a package of cigarettes
from us with profuse thanks and
went back to his task.
Well Canadian youth, let's hear
your answer to this plea. The
National Federation of Labor
Youth is initiating a campaign to
provide comforts for the youth
engaged in the construction of
the railway. The campaign which
opened on the first of September
will continue until the end of Oc
tober. It Is designed to raise

will buy all sort of comforts, the
main emphasis being placed on
cigarettes, shaving equipment,
cosmetics and sports equipment

The local Montreal C.S.Y.F.
branch held its Annual Picnic
on Sunday, July 21st
Early in the morning the mem-bers
went out to the picnic-groun- ds
and began to prepare
everything that would be needed
for the expected and sunny day
ahead of us. This included carry-ing
the drinks and food through
the bush. Towards noon it began
to rain. Although there were not
many people, the few that were
there stayed. When they finally
decided to go home, there was
still the task of taking the left-overs
back to some of the peo-ple's
houses. Unlike the sunshine
and dry paths of the morning, it
was raining and the paths were
muddy.
Although everything seemed
contrary to what we expected, we
still made a profit of $26.75.
We would like to exprcsi our
gratitude to all who co-opera- ted with us and helped to make our
picnic a success.
