S E V E N T E E N T H A N N U A L C O N V E N T I ON 27 In the fall I attended a conference in Edmonton with representatives f r om the I. O. D. E. and U . F . W . A . , called by Doctor Bow, the Deputy Minister of H e a l t h . Here arrangements were made to have Doctor Margaret Owen give lectures. on Sex Hygiene at over fifty points in the province. O u r women deserve credit for co- operating and making local arrangements for h o l d i ng these. In December I also attended a L i b r a r y Conference which was held in the Senate Chamber of this b u i l d i n g and presided over by Mr. Cameron, l i b r a r i a n of the University. A L i b r a r y Association was formed of which more w i l l be heard when M r . Cameron speaks to you on F r i d a y morning. I n January I c a r r i e d the greetings of this organization to the convention of the U . F . W . A . in session in Calgary, and at the i n v i t a t i o n of the principal attended the c l o s i n g exercises at the School of A g r i c u l t u r e i n V e r m i l i o n late i n M a r c h . I have also been asked to be a member of the A d v i s o r y Committee to the H o m e - M a k e r s Hour broadcast over C K U A which will meet next Saturday morning. D u r i n g the year we have been called upon to part with four faithful officers of the Women's Institutes whose removal by death has cast a gloom over ihe district i n w h i c h they resided. Mrs. Greenway, a former Constituency Convener of Taber, and P r o v i n c i a l Convener of Child Welfare and Public H e a l t h ; M r s . Bessie E a t o n . President o'f Griffin Creek; Mrs. Palmer, President of Cluny, and M r s . Goundry, Secretary of Ohaton. To their relatives and friends we extend our deepest sympathy. I here express my sincere appreciation to the members of the Council who at all times have given me their hearty support. I wish especially to mention the kindness of M r s . Roberts, M r s . Short and M r s . Ferguson who by taking me in their cars have saved r a i l w a y fares, thus enabling me to visit more Conferences; also to the ladies in the south who arranged pleasant l i t t l e motor trips for our enjoyment, and gave me the opportunity of v i e w i ng some of the south's beauty spots. I also wish to express my appreciation to M r s . Regan and Mrs. P r i c e for the many courtesies they have shown me. M y thanks are also due to the Chairmen of Standing Committees and Constituency Conveners for their splendid work and loyal support, to the Secretaries for their reports and l i t t l e personal notes some times enclosed, and to every member of the A l b e r t a Women's Institutes. To one and a l l I say thank you and may prosperity and health be yours in the near future and throughout time. PUBLICITY S E C R E T A R Y ' S REPORT Elizabeth Bailey Price, Calgary A g a i n it is my pleasure to report the yearly publicity activities of the A l b e r t a Women's Institutes. In these days when we hear depression talked on every side, I am pleased to record that the p u b l i c i t y of the Alberta Women's Institutes flourishes as never before. This material comes pouring i n to me, eight and ten letters a day; I feel like a dressmaker who has to make a dress and hasn't enough material. I haven't enough space to keep up to the reports. It requires the utmost ingenuity to cut my news c o p y - such as using i n i t i a l s for names, etc., and a l l year I have been s u p p l y i n g an e x t r a sheet of it weekly. Even with this I get behind at Convention and Conference times, so don't be - impatient if your news reports that you have sent in so f a i t h f u l l y are late at these particular times.
