BRANCH & COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES Cont'd.
Theme into his/ her garden plan. At the garden party in August, each child contributed veggies to create
a delicious stew. Each participant received a personal picture, judging sheet, Centennial ribbon and
button.
Coffee Party - 47 guests attended the annual event, viewed the Then and Now Centennial
display and bought tickets on the Pine Lake/ Hillsdown quilt. Doris Warke chaired the quilting and
finishing of the quilt. Marion Younker won two books by Noreen Olson.
Pine Lake Centennial Celebration - June 11, 2005 at the HUB Community Centre and
100th birthday of Hugh MacFadyen. Children's Garden Club participated in the parade wtth a " garden"'
float. Marion Brown represented Take Pride in Your Community carrying a sandwich board of " Before"
and " After" the road side clean up. Marion Brown was chair of the Centennial Committee and was
Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening program. All members supported the event.
Jelly Project - Kathleen Lawrence filled orders with limited available juice.
Crossroads Ag Fair - PLWI sponsored the Needlecraft section. Alexander Silbernagel,
garden participant, won a special prize for her garden entry.
HUB Race Nite - A basket of jelly was again the branch contribution.
Christmas Market - Nov. 12/ 05 with 15 tables sold to vendors 50/ 50 draw, a door prize
and lunch of soup, sandwiches and dessert all contributed to the net revenue of about $ 300.00. Craft
markets are drawing limited interest.
Red Deer Homeless - Nine Christmas mugs filled with instant ingredients and a sleeping
bag were donated to the homeless through the Mobile Outreach Program.
Christmas Family Supper - Dec. 2/ 05 at the Hub Community Centre. Seven members
and extended family members enjoyed the pot luck supper, Bingo and Santa Edward with candy bags.
Christmas greetings were sent to Lillie Clutton, Vera Pierce and AWI Executive
members.
Branch Fbstonan Marion Brown has kept the branch history up to date.
Monthly branch meeting reports have been printed by the Innisfail Province and R. D.
County News.
CONSTITUENCY ACTIVITIES
Annual Constituency Handicraft Tea and Display - April 23, 2005 at the Red Deer
Museum. Eleven articles were entered by six branch members.
Constituency Conference - October 15, 2005 at the HUB Community Centre and co-hosted
by Pine Lake and Hillsdown W. I. branches. Attractive displays depicted die theme,
" Agriculture in Alberta 1905 - 2005". Manon Brown was one of the guest speakers who described
the annual Red Deer County Enterprising Tours. Marion Brown will also serve as Constituency
Educational Convener for International Affairs. All branch members were present at the day long
event. Evelyn Hardwick won the quilt and $ 500.00 will be sent to FWIC Convention 2006.
Members attended the Balmoral and Hillsdown annual teas as well as the Delbume 90th
branch anniversary.
ALBERTA WOMEN'S INSTITUTES
Founder's Day Quilt Presentation - Feb. 19, 2005 at Cottonwood- Gordon Hall. Four
members and their spouses enjoyed the delicious beef dinner, entertainment and presentation of the quilt
that will hang in the Alberta Legislature for the Centennial Year. Marion's photo transfer block of the
Pine Lake # 2 School was included in the quilt which traced pictorially the history of rural Alberta.
District III Workshop - Duhamel, March 17, 2005. Three members attended the day's
meeting with the theme, " Revisit the Past, Anticipate the Future". Gloria Coates from Alix will serve as
the next Director for District HI.
