Pine Lake Women's Institute
endorsed the following resolution,
" Resolved that the Government
of Canada uphold its promise
to recognize marriage In its
traditional form." Milnerton W. I.
seconded the motion, which will
be forward to the Federated
Women's Institutes of Canada.
The federal body will take action
if it is ratified.
Marion Brown introduced Di-anne
Vatcher by proxy to the
branch membership. Marion
had met Dianne in person at the
convention in Lennoxville. Quebec
and was delighted to meet a
member from TWillingate, Newfoundland,
which Is the Pine
Lake's branch twin. Dianne has
been a member of her branch for
22 years, is a computer technician,
owns a drug store with her
husband and is the mother of
three sons. They hope to keep in
close contact via e- mail.
Branch members have had a
busy summer. Roy and Marion
Brown motored to Quebec in the
company of W. I. friends. Henry
and Patsy Nagel from British Columbia.
The six- day convention
was filled with timely speakers,
interesting workshops, reports
of accomplishments, friendship

and fun. One day is always taken
to travel the area near the conference
centre and the Quebec
membership extended its hand
of friendship in dance, song and
wonderful food. In mid July, four
members of the branch were
guests of Cottonwood W. I. as
Blanche Cunningham related her
FWIC Convention experiences.
Branch members and visitors
also enjoyed the Sunny brook
Farm Museum Tea and Tour as
another special summer outing.
The enjoyable afternoon was
made possible by the many volunteers.
All 17 registered children garden
participants completed
their garden projects.
Kathleen Lawrence and Doris
Warke toured and judged the
gardens and recognized the children
for their work at the " garden
party" on August 19, 2003.
Children were given an evaluation
sheet, ribbons and a $ 1 gift
certificate from McDonald's.
The children brought cooked
veggies from their gardens,
which were added to the cooked
meat to create a delicious stew.
Ice cream cones topped off the
evening meal.
Thanks is extended to the
Pine- Glen Recreation Board for
the donation to carry out this
project.
The branch continued to help
beautify the district with their
flowers and grass cutting of the
WI. Corner as well as sponsoring
the Needlecraft Section of the
Agricultural Fair. Doris Warke
was one of the winners of the
three- way tie.
Upcoming Fall projects include:
Raffle of a bird feeder
Sponsoring a Christmas Market
Participating in the Shoe Box
program
