Pine Lake WT - Isabelle Beck Constituency Convener Trudy Carson was special guest report-ingon the January Workshop. She told us that the agricultural program is going well and that other provinces are interested. Urban students are enrolled in Agricultural Colleges and new courses are needed. There was a 50% response to the Rural Child Care Survey. Branches have been asked to study ' Waterways' in 1991. Former Senator Martha Belish, a member of Women's Institutes, has written a book, Women in Politics, which should be of great interest to members. Minute Minders were given by Pine Lake members: 1. The All American Selection of winners of new seed varieties; 2. The nutrition myths of the red meat industry; 3. How to get more input from meetings; 4. The appeal by the ' Concerned Citizens of Pine Lake' to the Public Health Advisory and Appeal Board that a regional landfill not be placed at the headwaters of Pine Lake; and 5. Members are reminded to finish handicraft for entry at the Handicraft Tea in Red Deer. Recycle Poster, a branch project, was taken to the District 3 Conference and will be judged and later displayed at the Provincial Convention. Gayle Olson president, and newest grandmother of the Pine Lake WI, welcomed 13 members to the March meeting. Handicraft convener Lillie Clutton asked for handicraft to be turned in by April 17, 1991. Mini reports were given by the educational conveners. The Heart Fund card party provided an enjoyable evening and brought in $ 375 by way of admission and donations. Ladies high - Donna Vincent, low - Helen Harris, travel - Ruth Richards. Men's high - Doris Warke, low - John Sawyer, travel - Bob Lawrence. District 3 Conference, Norseman Inn, Camrose, was attended by delegate Gayle Olson and Doris Warke. It was a two- day conference with good attendance. The program was given by Citizenship and Legislation convener, Isabelle Beck who presented ' Rare moment of plain speech in Commons' by Carol Goar. David MacDonald still believes in the tradition of intelligent parliamentary debate. The speech he delivered in regard to Wilson's budget caused the level of debate in the House of Commons to rise considerably. ' Surely what we are addressing is the health of the country,' he said, and wondered if parliamentarians, as a group, were really serving the country by taking sides on difficult economic issues.
