Women's Institutes sponsor
kids' farm safety day camp
by E. Marion Brown
75 children from ages 6 -
13 years participated in the
one day Farm Safety Day
Camp Thursday, August 14,
1997 at the Crossroads Agricultural
Society building at
Pine Lake.
The Women's Institutes
Constituencies of Red Deer
Centre, Red Deer West and
Innisfail sponsored the event.
O r g a n i z i n g committee
included Faye May berry, V i
Moore, Eileen Fedderson,
Barb Thompson and Marion
Brown. The " hands on" camp
was made possible by sponsors
supplying machinery
and equipment.
Parents of the children
acted as team leaders and
guided the children through
the 12 stations manned by
experts of the equipment
demonstrators. The children
remained keen and interested
as they learned safety
approaches to a n i m a l s,
chemicals, whirling PTO's,
powerful machinery, firearms,
and fires. They were
also introduced to initial first
aid procedures. Thanks is
extended to all sponsoring
groups and individuals who
helped make the event a success!
