Pine Lake Women's Institute hosts
Australian family
In February. 1963,
Branch Secretary Mrs.
Frieda ( Lawrence) Bragg
received a letter from Associated
Country Women of
the World head office in
London informing us that
our International Friendship
link would be the
Haden W. I in Haden, Australia.
Marion Brown, Vera
Pierce and Frieda
( Lawrence) Bragg were the
Pink Lake W. I. members
who undertook to correspond
with Ada and Rosalie
Newton, members of
the Haden W. I. Although
Rosalie passed away several
years ago, the link with
Ada Newton, who. is
approaching 90 years of
age, still continues. The
exchange of scrapbooks,
calendars and gifts at
Christmas still takes place.
While holidaying in Aust

Brown had visited with
Ada Newton and her fami-iy-
On January 10, 1998,
almost 35 years to the day,
Pine Lake W. I. was pleased
and honored to be able to

host Ada Newton's niece,
Glenda, with husband
Steve Bellettini and three
children, Carol, Helen and
David. A special evening of
food and socializing was
held in the Pine Lake Hall.
Glenda's comment upon
a r r i v i n g at the home of
Marion and Roy Brown
after driving up from Calgary,
was " I can't believe
that whatever I looked,
everything was white".
This was their first visit to
Canada.
After the pot- luck supper,
Marion showed a few
slides taken five years ago
when she and Roy were in
Australia. These included
views of the Newton family's
dairy farm, the home
with gardens, flowers and
fruit trees, as well as one
picture of the members of
the Haden W. l.
An interesting session of
questions and answers was
shared.
The evening closed with
coffee and cake after which
the Bellettini family " bundled
up" to return home
with Marion and Roy.
They admitted they'd
been warned about winter
" c o l d " but didn't realize
what cold was until experiencing
it first hand.
