8 OUTSTANDING ^ as RTICLES R. D. Con. 1996 " THE GREAT PARKING DILEMMA" - Doris Warke, Kathleen Lawrence H i g h l i g h t s of t h e WI C o n s t i t u e n c y C o n f e r e n ce By Helen Williams Red Deer Centre Constituency Conference was held May 3, at the Red Deer Museum's Stewart Room. Forty- five ladies attended the annual, one- day event with Balmoral WI taking home the branch attendance prize. Greetings were extended from the City of Red Deer by Alderman Bob Sehnell. Director Moms Flewelling spoke on behalf of the museum. Hazel Swainson, AWI vice- president was the provincial representative and Grace Grover, director from District 3. Incoming director, Marcclla Basco and AWI past- president Ethel Morrisroe attended also. Convener Helen Williams presided with Carol Tronnes as constituency secretary. Following O Canada, the Mary Stewart Collect was repeated. The memorial was conducted by Pat Maync, assisted by pianist Kathleen Lawrence. A moment of silence, readings and roses were presented in memory of members who passed away during the year. Director Grace Grover took park in the business portion, revealing events to take place in the near future. Hazel Swainson brought information on AWI and Associated Country Women of the World with emphasis on the 1997 celebration, in Hamilton, Ontario, of Women's Institute Centennial. Lillie Clutton introduced and thanked speaker Linda Wilson from \ the Alzheimer Association. Linda gave an informative presentation, noting the increase of Alzheimer patients and to be aware of particular signs of | the disease. Retiring home economics conven- , er Marion Brown was thanked for her! lime and efforts in preparing the1 lunches and teas. Florence Rutten, of | Blackfalds WI now has ihe position. After another successful handicraft exhibit, Gayle Olson presented the attending. Adding to enjoyment of the conference, Balmoral and Pine Lake branches each entertained with a humorous skit. Lacombe contributed two Women's Institute songs. Evelyn Cressey, Ridgewood WI, was presented a gift for her prompt secretary reports in detail, a total of 30 items over the past three years. Gayle thanked everyone for their contribution of help and/ or items and suggested an early start for next year. Marion Brown had the constituency history book on display and requested additional histories to keep this book up- to- date. All displays, education convener and secretary reports were appreciated by those | Vi. Moore, Ridgewood WI has ! accepted the position of constituency convener She is wished the best and | we, as a constituency, look forward to the coming years. Millie Munro, Sandy Baker- Anderson, Gayle Olson and Vera Pierce followed by recitation of our WI creed. Marion Brown reported on a very I successful 40th Pine Lake WI anniversary celebration in April Kathleen Lawrence told us that two packets were sent to support the Squares for Zambia project and also stated that we had won second place a the annual handicraft competition ai^ the Red Deer WI constituency level. Delegate Marilyn Wattenbarger reported on the Red Deer WI Constituency Conference held at the Red Deer Museum. Social Services convener Gayle Olson, told us that a total of $ 190 had been collected during our cancer can- I vass. Plans were completed for the annual coffee party which was held at the Hub, June 5, as well as a reminder about the Farmer's Market, which we sponsor, at the Pine Lake Bi- Lo service station every Friday from 3 - 7 p. m. Our new project is to recycle our 1986 calenders, which were left over, for the year 1997. The dates will be the same for that year. A registration was sent for a delegate to attend the June AWI convention in Camrose. Health convener, Isabelle Beck, presented her program on health which included a packet which she has prepared on the use of barley flour.
