Several members took samples of l a k e water and t h e i r own w e l l water and t o g e t h e r sent them f o r a n a l y s i s . The r e s u l t s of our e f f o r t s : medical h e a l t h o f f i c e r r e p o r t e d , " The danger from p o l l u t i o n i n the l a k e was n i l " while D o r i s Warke r e c e i v e d the a n a l y s i s o f t h e i r w e l l water as '! not p o t a b l e ". L e t t e r s were a l s o w r i t t e n t o LEVER DETERGENTS LTD. i n q u i r i n g about plans to produce phosphate- free d e t e r g e n t s . Concern was a l s o expressed over the use of VAPONA STRIPS. " P o l l u t i o n of the Mind— DRUGS" was a l s o s t u d i e d. Many p r o j e c t s were c a r r i e d out d u r i n g the year. The r e g u l a r Cancer Canvass was held i n A p r i l w i t h a donation of $ 96.00 t o the Cancer Fund. Vera P i e r c e made a p o s t e r which was d i s p l a y e d at the P i n e Lake S t o r e to thank everyone who donated. F i f t y c h i l d r e n were bussed to the Red Deer R e c r e a t i o n a l Centre f o r summer swimming l e s s o n s . T h i r t y - s i x s u c c e s s f u l l y passed t h e i r t e s t s . David Smith was presented w i t h a g i f t f o r h i s work as i n s t r u c t o r. P i n e Lake a l o n g w i t h f o u r o t h e r branches supported Kang, Sang Hoon of the Sam Yook C h i l d r e n ' s R e h a b i l i t a t i o n Centre i n S e o l , Korea. Sang Hoon a t f i v e years weighs 19 pounds. U. S. C f l a n n e t t e garments. . donations i n c l u d e d k n i t t e d a r t i c l e s as w e l l as the r e g u l ar We sponsored a Hallowe'en p a r t y w i t h about t h i r t y c h i l d r en t a k i n g p a r t . S u i t a b l e d e c o r a t i o n s were done by M a r j o r i e , Debbie and Douglas Brown as w e l l as Danny Smith. The making and s e l l i n g of j e l l y from w i l d and home grown f r u it was continued. Guest Speakers: Mr. M o r r i s F l e w e l l i n g — T r a c e d t h e progress of e d u c a t i o n from a n c i e n t times to the present day. Mrs. R. G r o v e s — S p o k e on p o l l u t i o n from household products and e s p e c i a l ly Vapona S t r i p s. M i s s Kathy Grimson— Spoke on her t r i p to the U n i t e d Nations i n New York won t h r o u g h a p u b l i c s p e a k i n g c o n t e s t. Mrs. N o l a n — D i s p l a y e d and gave a commentary on d i f f e r e n t types of needlework. Mrs. Dennis ( L o u i s e ) B u c k l e r was welcomed as a new member. Mr. & Mrs. R. T. B e c k i n g s a l e c e l e b r a t e d t h e i r 50th wedding a n n i v e r s a r y i n J u l y and we were p l e a s e d to convey our c o n g r a t u l a t i o n s w i th the p r e s e n t a t i o n o f an e l e c t r i c c l o c k. Two new a r r i v a l s i n members' homes were: Darcy Ivan to Mr. & Mrs. Dennis B u c k l e r June 10, 1970 Vanessa L o r r a i n e t o Mr. & Mrs. Percy P i e r c e Jufyly 3, 1970
