1959 EVENTS ( Continued) Mrs. E. Connor, Mrs. D. Lawrence, Mrs. R. Brown, Mrs. L. Dawson, Mrs J . Warke, Mrs. J . Sawyer, Mrs. J . Dreeshen. Presented w i t h p i n s f o r p e r f e c t attendance f or one year were; Mrs. E. Bascombe and Mrs. E. P i e r c e. In December, we marked our annual supper at the Howells Lake School on the f i r s t F r i d a y . The h i g h l i g h t of our supper was the program of which n e a r l y everyone took p a r t. Submitted by Mrs. R. C l u t t o n. Mrs. R. L. Brown was our delegate t o the A. W. I, c o n v e n t i o n i n 1 9 5 9 . The J u b i l e e Convention at the U n i v e r s i t y of A l b e r t a were f o u r days I w i l l always remember. F i f t y years i n r e v i e w made a young member a p p r e c i a t e the hard work and s t r i f e that had gone i n t o an o r g a n i z a t i o n to make i t t h e success i t had become. Many mothers and daughters were i n attendance. For me i t was fun to stay a g a i n i n Pembina H a l l , i n which I had been a r e s i d e n t d u r i n g U n i v e r s i t y days. There i s r e a l fun and f e l l o w s h i p at such a c o n v e n t i o n , c h a t t i n g over the b r e a k f a s t t a b l e or on c h o i r l e d by Mr. & Mrs. H. Murgatroyed. Our p r e s e n t a t i o n of our f i n i s h e d " s e l e c t i o n s " gave us a r e al f e e l i n g of accomplishment. Perhaps the h i g h l i g h t of the f o u r days was an evening devoted t o Fashions of Y e s t e r y e a r , complete w i t h s k i t s and songs of days gone by. Another evening was spent w i t h our past p r e s i d e n t s b r i n g i n g us from a b e g i n n i ng of t h i r t y - e i g h t members i n 1909 and a f i v e cent Eaton note book, t o our present day 48,000 members and f i l e s of complete records and accomplishments. This was the evening we drank our J u b i l e e Tea and ate our A n n i v e r s a r y cake. We had looked back but the present day problems were not n e g l e c t e d . R e s o l u t i o n s were brought f o r t h and d e a l t w i t h , new p r o j e c t s were drawn up and we were on our way i n t o a b r i g h t f u t u r e. Submitted by Mrs. R. Brown. Mrs. J . Sawyer was our delegate t o the June conference and Mrs. B. A l l e n was our delegate t o Farm Women's Week a t Olds. Farm Woman Week a t Olds A g r i c u l t u r e s c h o o l f o r Pine Lake W. I. J u l y 1959. " A f t e r a l l o c a t i n g our rooms, we a l l met at supper and were o f f i c i a l l y welcomed by Mr. B i r d s a l , the s u p e r i n t e n d a n t , and i n t r o d u c e d t o the s t a f f. We had addresses and l e c t u r e s f o r f i v e days, which were very i n t e r e s t i n g . One t h i n g that stands out i n my memory was a t o u r through the k i t c h e n s where the soup was made i n one as b i g as a good s i z e d washing machine and that was where I saw my f i r s t d i s h washer ( Very i n t e r e s t i n g ) . My companion and I by some means got mixed up i n the b r e a k i n g up concert and she f i n a l l y found h e r s e l f p l a y i n g the b ig base drum and I the K e t t l e drum, f o r the f i r s t time. We had a l o t of f u n . The week ended w i t h a banquet and many speeches where we learned c o n s i d e r a b l e on the Cameron Commission on E d u c a t i o n . It was a very i n t e r e s t i n g week and I s h a ll always remember i t . " Submitted by Mrs. B. A l l e n. Mrs. B. Whittemore became the mother of daughter Brenda, and Mrs. R. C l u t t o n became the mother of daughter, Patsy. Mrs. C l u t t o n has the d i s t i n c t i o n i n our club of being a b l e t o have her babies i n between meetings and so be present at each g a t h e r i n g of our W. I.
