THE FIRST W. I. MEETING OF 1986 WAS HELD JANUARY 8 AT THE HOME MEEWAN, WITH THIRTEEN MEMBERS AND ONE VISITOR ATTENDING. HELEN
FAREWELL GAVE THE THOUGHT, ENTITLED " WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE YEAR?" THE ROLL CALL WAS A WRITTEN PROJECT THAT EACH MEMBER INTENDS
TO DO FOR 1986. GRACE GROVER HANDED OUT THE 1986 PROGRAMS.
MARY WADEY WAS PRESENTED WITH A W. I. BELL BY THE RED DEER
CONSTITUENCY FOR HER CONTRIBUTION IN " HANDICRAFT" IN THE OVER NINETY
YEARS CATEGORY. THE LADIES DECIDED TO CONTINUE SENDING OUR USED
STAMPS TO THE CANCER FUND. MARY WADEY REPORTED SENDING THREE FOR THE CHEER COMMITTEE. IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE MEMBERS WOULD
COMPILE A COOK BOOK, AND EACH MEMBER WAS REQUESTED TO BRING RECIPE IN FIVE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES. THE MEMBERS WHO HAD PERFECT
ATTENDANCE RECEIVED THEIR GIFTS.
THE RED DEER CLOTHING BANK SENT A LETTER OF THANKS FOR THE TURNED IN IN DECEMBER. THIRTEEN MEMBERS PAID THEIR DUES. ROBBIE
COPLAND DISCUSSED THE HANDICRAFT LIST FOR BLACKFALDS DAY, AND PAT
SETTERS AND LOUISE MATTHIAS OFFERED TO WORK IN THIS AREA FOR THE
UPCOMING CELEBRATION.
ROBBIE THEN INTRODUCED HER GUEST SPEAKER, PAT MAYNE OF HIGHWAY
W. I., WHO SPOKE ON " THE ART OF PRESERVING FLOWERS". SHE TOLD US THE METHODS WERE: 1. DRYING; 2. PRESSING; 3. SILICA GEL AND GLYCERINE.
SHE DISPLAYED A GREAT VARIETY OF PRESSED FLOWERS, PETALS, LEAVES, FLOWERS DONE IN THE OTHER VARIOUS METHODS. SHE ALSO SHOWED MANY
WEEDS, GRAINS, ETC. WHICH HAD BEEN SPRAYED. SHE DEMONSTRATED HOW MAKE PICTURES USING THE PRESSED FLOWERS. IT WAS A MOST ENJOYABLE
DEMONSTRATION, AND ONE IN WHICH LITTLE EXPENSE IS INCURRED. SHE GIVEN A HEARTY VOTE OF THANKS. PAT MAYNE WON THE EVENING DRAW.
THE HOSTESS AND GRACE GROVER SERVED LUNCH. THE FEBRUARY 5 MEETING
WILL BE AT THE HOME OF MARY WADEY.
